about

This, the first experiment in Musical Tracing, consists of Aaron M. Olson playing along solo and blindly (having not learned any parts in advance) on 18 different instruments/sounds to Steve Reich's Music For 18 Musicians. Reich's original piece was then removed from the DAW project timeline leaving only Olson's 18 different passes of playing along, thusly creating a "traced" version of the piece.

The original piece of Music For 18 Musicians is roughly one hour long, so it took about 18 hours of playing along to make this recording, as everything is done in real time with no preparation.

Recorded in February of 2014 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

The recording is separated into two parts because the piece as a whole exceeds Bandcamp's file size limit.
